All Eyes on the Accessory
The wonderful thing about accessories is that they can give your look an instant update without having to fork out a small fortune. It’s just so easy to change the look and ‘mood’ or ‘personality’ of a simple garment by simply changing the accessories that you wear with it.
A simple black shift dress could look very classic and elegant with a good quality slim leather belt with a small silver or gold buckle, worn with fine 7 dernier hose and court shoes.
But it could also look very ‘rock chic’ if you teamed it up with footless lace tights, statement chunky heals, a studded black belt with a large pewter buckle and a leather biker jacket.
Wearing it over a long sleeved T shirt with woollen tights, comfy low healed knee boots, a soft suede belt, a casual scarf and long cardigan will give it a more relaxed, natural look.
Get the picture?
This season, acccessories aren’t just add-ons to your outfit, they are key to your look, but just one pieces is enough: less is most definitely more.
So, take your carefully chosen hat or scarf or handbag and work your whole outfit around it.
This week in my blog posts, I’m going to focus on accessories and hope to give you a few top tips on how you can make them work for you…
Part 1 is all about Hats, and I’ll be following it up with posts about Gloves, Belts and Scarves….so ‘Watch this Space!’…if you know what I mean…
Accessories Part 1: How to wear ‘The Hat’
Your personality will dictate the styles you are instantly drawn to but the main things to consider are size and colour.
The size of the hat should complement the size of your head and face and generally your overall scale.
If you are petite and have a small face don’t go for large brims or big decorations. If you are medium to large in scale you can carry off the bigger styles and you should avoid very small or tight fitting hats.
The colour should be a shade or shades that flatter your skin tone and hair colour. Black is elegant and versatile but it doesn’t suit everyone and with the hat right next to your face the colour will make a huge difference to how you look.
Next time I’ll be giving advice on ‘Gloves’
All the best…
